Opera “Brundibar”
Tuesday, 8.11. at 17.00 at Riga Jewish Community, opera “Brundibar” will be performed by students from Germany – orchestra and singers.
Opera has a unique history. It was performed by children in the Terezienstadt ghetto in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. The Nazis used it in their propaganda as an example of “normal” life in the ghetto. The plot of the opera is a fairy tale. Later, the opera performers, along with thousands of other children, were taken to Auschwitz and killed. Currently, the opera “Brundibar” is staged by children’s groups all over the world.
