HYBRID PATHWAYS// SHARED HISTORIES
Hybrid Pathways// Shared Histories
Overview:
The project started in fall of 2023 and is set to run until fall 2024. It aims to utilise innovative technology to enable teenagers and young adults to focus deeply on a crucial part of modern history, the time period 1939 and 1945 and give them the opportunity to share their findings through a tour they created. This project aims to create a new approach to studying about the Holocaust, both in Latvia and in Germany, as well as experiencing a tour developed from a perspective that is not commonly available in memorial culture.
Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Exchange:
The project features two groups of teenagers and young adults, one in Berlin and one in Riga, who are independently working to create a tour through their city, aided by AR and VR technology and international experts. They will draw both upon historical sources and family and local history to create an immersive experience. In addition, the project will feature the groups visiting each other’s city to strengthen the international relations and to receive feedback for their tours.
Both the participants in Riga and Berlin, each took part in a three-day workshop where they were introduced to storytelling techniques, VR-technology utilisation, and were taught how to manage and navigate social media effectively. The groups in both cities are meeting regularly with each other, going on tours of memorial sites, visiting museums and archives, studying history both individually and in groups.
